The family of a doctor who has gone missing in Greater Manchester have pleaded for him to return.
Dr Richard Stevens disappeared from Pendlebury Children's Hospital in Salford on Monday.
He left his jacket and briefcase at the hospital, where he works as a consultant haematologist, and his Audi car was left in the car park.
On Wednesday Dr Stevens' wife Eirwen told how he left their house for work as normal on Monday.
Mrs Stevens said: "He gave me a kiss on the forehead like he normally does and just said 'bye, see you later'.
"That was the last I heard or have seen of him.
"I just want him home, please. I just want to know he is all right."
Dr Stevens' son Jonathan said his disappearance is totally out of character.
"He never goes anywhere without telling us where he is going or how long he is going to be," he said.
Calls have been made to Dr Stevens' mobile phone, which is switched off, and his bank accounts are being monitored.
Chief Inspector Nigel Bonson said: "There is so much mystery surrounding this.
"There is no suggestion of criminal activity and it is very
much a routine missing persons inquiry."
Leukaemia drug
When he was last seen, after he arrived at the hospital at 0710 BST on Monday, Dr Stevens was wearing a shirt and tie and dark trousers.
He has been a qualified doctor for 30 years, and previously worked at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI).
While at the MRI in 1990 he was involved in a UK hospital trial of a new drug - G-CSF - in children with the commonest type of childhood leukaemia.
The hospital has said it is working to ensure none of Dr Steven's patients will miss out on treatment.
