Parking meter plans forge ahead

Local businesses are objecting to the plans
Plans for a controlled parking zone in Birkenhead have moved a step closer after councillors agreed to proposals.

The plans include the introduction of up to 100 parking meters in the town centre, to replace the current disc zone areas of free parking.

The aim is to reduce long-stay parking and encourage public transport, but local businesses object to the plans.

Councillors who met at Wallasey Town Hall voted to refer the plans to the council`s cabinet for a final decision.

The local business community is critical of the scheme, saying it will cost employees thousands of pounds a year.
