Poppies in bloom during November in rare tribute
A field of blooming poppies has been hailed as a rare tribute to fallen service people on Remembrance Sunday, made possible by mild weather.

The blooms are filling a field near Guist, Norfolk, after farm manager Adrian Howes ploughed the set-aside land on the Sennon Park estate in July.

He then planted wild flowers in an attempt to deter thistles.

"Poppies are a weed which grows when land is disturbed but you normally only see them in the summer," he said.

They blossomed late because the wild-flower seeds were not planted until July.

"They shouldn't have survived until now but the weather has been very mild, we've had no frost, and so they're still there.

"I wouldn't normally plough and plant anything in July. But the land is being left for set-aside and I wanted to keep the thistles down."
