Doubts over loss making factory
Del Monte factory at Methwold in Norfolk
Del Monte's factory at Methwold in Norfolk employs 250 people
The owners of fruit and vegetable packing company which employed 1,200 people when it was taken over four years ago are considering its future.

About 250 jobs are under threat at the Del Monte factory in Norfolk.

Managing director Peter Miller said the company based in Methwold in west Norfolk has consistently failed to make any money since the takeover.

Managers are now in discussions with staff and unions over the future viability of the site.

Mr Miller said: "It is a sad fact that, ever since we acquired it, Methwold has consistently failed to make money, despite the best efforts of all involved.

"Unfortunately, we have concluded that there is not business alternative other than entering into consultations with our employees to determine the future of the site."
