The owner of an animal rescue kennels in Grimsby says more dogs than ever are being abandoned by their owners.
Last year Bill Walker's animal shelter picked up more than 300 abandoned dogs - but only 60 were reclaimed.
He said many new homes were urgently needed in North East Lincolnshire for dogs abandoned in the area.
His kennels in Grainthorpe and other animal centres have been inundated, despite warnings to owners not to take on a pet unless they can afford it.
"People must heed the message that a dog is for life - not just for Christmas," he said.
