A multi-agency group charged with keeping Northamptonshire's roads safe in severe weather is to meet to plan for more icy conditions in the county.

Council staff will meet with police and other emergency services to coordinate efforts as the county braces itself for more low temperatures into next week.

After ice made driving treacherous on Saturday, police said conditions had eased but danger remained.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said non-major routes were affected.

She said: "The roads are icy when you turn off the main routes and drivers are encouraged to take care and drive appropriately to the poor conditions."

Drivers who were forced to abandon their cars in the extreme weather on Saturday or earlier in the week were being encouraged to collect them.

People were also urged to check on elderly neighbours to ensure they had everything they needed.
