New road signs are being put up in rural areas of south Northamptonshire as part of a pilot project to reduce casualties.
Northamptonshire County Council was awarded �1.5m from the Department of Transport to fund the Rightracks scheme investigating safety on rural roads.
The new signs tell drivers they are entering a rural safety zone.
The three-year-long Rightracks project aims to develop new strategies by evaluating data from road casualties.
All the results collected will be shared with other local authorities.
Councillor Bob Seery, county council cabinet member for transport and highways, said: "It is clearly of a somewhat experimental nature, being no doubt the reason for the funding having been provided by the Department for Transport.
"But the lessons learnt should be of value for the whole of the county."
