Winds of change at colliery site
Wind turbine
A former colliery could change from coal to wind production
Wind power could replace energy from coal at an eco-friendly business park on the site of an old colliery.

Nottinghamshire County Council hopes to build a wind turbine at Shireoaks Triangle Business Park, near Worksop.

Residents are being invited to a presentation at Shireoaks village hall on 21 September.

A silhouette of the turbine shape and a sound recording will aim to show how the eventual structure will look and sound.

'Kinder to environment'

The design would be erected at the former stocking yard of Shireoaks Colliery.

The site has been designed with water recycling, solar panels, a high-efficiency boiler plus natural ventilation and rain recycling, as well as the turbine itself. The business centre aims to become home to 175 staff.

Councillor Chris Winterton, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for us to explore a different method of energy production that will be kinder to the environment.

"Everyone from the local community is invited along to this presentation to find out more about the proposed wind turbine."

In other areas of the country, wind turbine plans have seen protest groups form with claims of problems with noise, TV signals, visual appearance and effect on property values.
