River Trent to get another bridge
River Trent
The bridge will be the fourth in the Nottingham area
Another major bridge is being planned for the River Trent in Nottinghamshire - but not for another six years.

The county council has decided against a bridge at Gamston and opted for a crossing near Radcliffe-on-Trent.

An independent two-year study said a bridge in that area would have a less damaging impact on the environment.

The council says building will not start until 2011 at the earliest, when work to add a new carriageway to the nearby A52 is finished.

There are already three bridges across the Trent in the Nottingham area.

No cost or timetable for the project has been discussed.
