The boy's arm almost got trapped in the tram door
Nottingham tram operators say they will investigate after a mother was separated from her son when the doors closed suddenly.

Susan Topliss of West Hallam in Derbyshire said the tram doors almost caught her nine-year-old son James' arm, but he was not injured.

The tram stopped straight away but the pair were shaken by the incident at Nottingham's Market Square.

Nottingham Express Transit said it will look at Mrs Topliss's complaint.

Moment of panic

James, who plays football at the Derby County youth academy, said: "I was just about to get on and the doors beeped and my mum had to push me out or I would have had my arm trapped in the tram."

His mother said: "I hope they resolve the issue so no-one else has to go through the moments of panic that I had to go through."

In another unrelated incident last week, Dawn Browning from Aspley was separated from her three-year-old son who was left standing on the platform.

He was unharmed and reunited with his mother, but she was upset because the tram conductor would not stop the tram when she told him what had happened.

She had to wait until the next scheduled stop to exit the tram and return to her son.

NET has just won a top award for its integration with other modes of transport.

It won the Best Operational Transport Project at the Public Private Finance Awards beating off competition from the Docklands Light Railway in London.
