Experts are meeting at the University of Nottingham to discuss China's changing role on the world stage.
Academics from as far away as Japan and the USA have travelled to the city for the weekend conference.
The university cemented close links with China when it opened a campus in Ningbo near Shanghai in February.
The two day event will bring together leading researchers to present a view of how China could continue to develop in the future.
The university's Leverhulme centre has been looking at the factors behind China's explosive economic growth and the implications this has for other countries.
The campus in Ningbo offers degree courses and facilities for 4,000 students.
