Bid for road dualling cash fails
The A46
This part of the A46 sees 23,000 vehicles a day
A campaign to improve one of the East Midland's busiest roads has failed in its latest bid for funding.

The duelling of the A46 between Widmerpool and Newark is seen as a way of cutting its higher-than-average accident rate and helping businesses.

The Department for Transport has said the 270m project is not a priority.

A spokesman for the East Midlands Regional Assembly said they were disappointed with the news and would now look at other areas of funding.

The project to improve the trunk road has received support from local Tory MPs Kenneth Clarke and Patrick Mercer.

The regional assembly joined forces with the East Midlands Development Agency to bid for government funding.
