DNA taken in 1983 murder inquiry

Detectives hunting the killer of a Nottinghamshire teenager who was murdered 25 years ago say they have taken DNA samples from several people.

Police said more than 100 calls had been made to their Colette Aram incident room since a recent appeal.

Colette, 16, from Keyworth, was sexually assaulted and strangled.

Detectives have a DNA profile of the killer and believe he went to the Generous Briton pub, in Costock, in the hour after killing her.

Her body was found in a field close to her Keyworth home.

New techniques

Det Supt Kevin Flint, who is leading the inquiry, said: "I cannot over-emphasise the importance of these developments.

"This is significant and should be a real incentive to anyone who thinks they might know who is responsible to put that name forward."

The force has produced 20,000 newspapers, dedicated to the Colette inquiry, which are being hand-delivered to thousands of homes across south Nottinghamshire.

The teenager was walking to her boyfriend's house late on 30 October 1983 when she was abducted.

The DNA profile was developed last year after items recovered during the original murder investigation were re-examined using new forensic techniques.
