Around 80 oak trees being felled in an ancient woodland will improve it for future generations, councillors say.
The trees cut down in Magdalen Wood, Wood Farm, Oxfordshire, will be used as timber for buildings.
Oxford County Council says felling the trees will help the forest develop by allowing more light for the remaining woodland to grow.
The wood will be used in local building projects in Hinksey, Little Wittenham and Bicester.
