An Oxfordshire leisure centre was flooded after high water levels caused a river to burst its banks.

The River Cherwell in Banbury overflowed on Sunday and the Spiceball Park Sports Centre had to be shut after water flowed into its pump room.

Jo Smith, from Cherwell District Council, said: "There's a lot of surface water about. We're assessing the situation before re-opening."

River levels were now said to be dropping.

Several properties in Bloxham narrowly escaped being flooded after torrential rain hit the county on Saturday.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said flooding on Tadmarton Road was prevented by sandbags and pumping water from the pathways.
