Lottery money to restore castle
Whittington Castle
It is hoped the castle will be fully restored next year
Almost 1m has been awarded to restore a 13th Century Shropshire castle to its former glory.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded the Whittington Castle Preservation Trust 950,000 - but 170,000 still needs to be found for the restoration.

The trust, which was set up in 1998 to try to halt the decline of the castle near Oswestry, gained a 99-year lease in 2002.

It is hoped work on the Grade I listed structure will start in the autumn.

The project is due to be completed next year.
