Children at several schools across the West Midlands have been struck down by flu and diarrhoea.

Three schools in Birmingham closed last week because of the number of children falling ill.

Mansfield Green School in Aston remains closed with more than 80 pupils sick. Schools in Shropshire and Staffordshire have also been affected.

Experts say the number of children affected was broadly in line for a winter virus.

At least 200 children have been affected at William Brookes School in Much Wenlock, Shropshire.

In Staffordshire nearly 300 pupils at the Sir Graham Balfour School in Stafford have been off ill with a winter sickness bug.

Specialist cleaners were called in to disinfect it over the weekend.
