Anti-drugs message goes to school
Needles
The devastating effects of drug use on youngsters is being highlighted
Former drug addicts are going into classrooms to give pupils an insight into the potentially lethal dangers of drink and drugs.

At the Kings of Wessex school in Cheddar, pupils are being given a horrific picture of what their future may bring if they become addicted.

More than 1,000 pupils have now been through the programme at the school in Somerset.

The message is not 'do not do drugs' but be aware of the dangers.

But Dr Martin Plant of the University of the West of England believes that using shock tactics does not work.

"Young people simply don't identify with people like this or with problems.

"The biggest problem, with young people - which is a huge problem - is that they feel they are invulnerable - it can't happen to me."
