Two national parks have been awarded cash to find innovative ways of preserving the environment and boost local economies.
A 600,000 boost will go to schemes benefiting Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, residents and businesses.
The South West of England Regional Development Agency funding will be spread over three years.
An agency spokesperson said: "This is all about maintaining the delicate balance between man and nature."
Diana Mompoloki, the agency's rural development manager, said: "Our national parks are one of South West England's greatest assets and must be protected.
"However, we also need to consider the changing needs of our rural communities and help create a thriving local economy."
