The Tornado attracts thousand of visitors wherever it goes

The first steam locomotive to be built in the UK for more than 50 years has arrived in Somerset. The £3m Tornado called at Bristol Temple Meads station before making its way to Minehead via Bridgwater. After its return trip it will come back to the West Somerset Railway and will run for the first two weeks in June. In February, 170-tonne the Tornado made its first long-distance passenger trip to London and was later officially named by the Prince of Wales. The locomotive was designed by Arthur Peppercorn, the last chief mechanical engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway. In 1990, the Darlington-based charity A1 Steam Locomotive Trust started the campaign to build a new operational steam train for the East Coast line, which resulted in the new engine. Thousands of railway enthusiasts have turned out to see its inaugural runs.
