Council go-ahead for homes plan
Countryside outside East Grinstead
Opponents do not want land in the area to be used for new homes
Controversial plans to build 2,500 new homes in East Grinstead look set to go ahead following a vote by the council.

West Sussex County Council approved the proposals - which would see the new homes being built by 2016 - on Friday.

Responding to criticism by opponents, it has said the town must take on its share of the 45,000 homes earmarked for the county by the government.

Campaigners against the development delivered a petition with about 10,000 signatures to the council last week.

They believe the addition of thousands of homes will place a huge burden on local infrastructure.

They also object to the plan because they think the town is taking the brunt of major development in the area.
