Zoo animals tuck in for Christmas
Meerkats at Christmas
The meerkats get stuck in to the goodies in their Christmas tuck box
Animals at an East Sussex zoo are getting extra helpings of their favourite foods for Christmas dinner.

Keepers at Drusillas in Alfriston are feeding poultry with carrots and a side dish of raw egg, mealworms, crickets and locusts for the meerkats.

The cotton-top tamarins get a special Christmas cake and the other monkeys are served mountains of bananas.

"We get different fruit in at Christmas and try to feed them their favourite foods," said keeper James Mulvany.

Yoghurt log

Throughout the year, food is hidden inside different objects to keep the animals' interest.

The monkeys might get a yogurt-filled log or the coatis a hay-filled basket with food in the centre.

And on 25 December, the food comes in boxes wrapped with festive paper.

But there's one food none of the animals will touch - the keepers say they all hate Brussels sprouts.
