John Ward has fought for years to find his daughter's killers

Ms Ward, 28, vanished in the Masai Mara game reserve in 1988. Her killers have never been found.

John Ward believes Foreign Office officials and Scotland Yard detectives helped the Kenyan government cover up his daughter's murder.

Mr Ward said a witness claimed to have seen his daughter with an armed man in fatigues the day she went missing.

He plans to be in Kenya within a month, where he hopes the revelation will trigger a new inquiry.

Mr Ward claims detectives in Britain had been aware of the witness for three years but had not acted on the information.

The retired hotelier, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, believes the former Kenyan president, Daniel Moi, tried to cover up the murder in order to prevent damage to the tourist industry.

He has always insisted that the Foreign Office and Metropolitan Police, whose detectives travelled to Kenya to help in the investigation, colluded in the cover up.

Miss Ward's burned remains were found in the African bush.

An inquest in Ipswich in April heard the Kenyan authorities initially claimed she had been attacked by wild animals.

But a pathologist found she had been dismembered with a sharp instrument.

A report by Lincolnshire Police into Mr Ward's claims is due to be delivered to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The Kenyan government has hinted it will reopen the investigation if it is presented with new evidence.
