A 39-year-old man from Ipswich is planning a 10-day trek in Tibet a year after undergoing triple bypass surgery.
Paul Taylor, who had the operation at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge in July, plans to do the walk in May next year.
He hopes to raise awareness of heart problems and raise funds for the charity the British Heart Foundation.
"As far as I am concerned I have been caught early, I have a second chance and I desperately want to give something back," he said.
'Family are supportive'
"I really want to make the public aware of heart problems. As many as 2.7 million in the UK suffer from heart disease and it causes 125,000 deaths a year," he added.
Mr Taylor, who is married with two children aged five and 11, said his family are behind his decision to go.
"My family are supportive but apprehensive, especially after seeing Michael Palin this week on his trek to Tibet.
"I am very excited but I have a long way to go and a lot of money to raise.
