Police warn vandals at allotment
Allotment generic
Anyone at the allotment without good reason will be questioned
High visibility police patrols are being carried out at an allotment in Surrey following a rise in thefts and vandalism in recent weeks.

Members of the St Paul's Allotment, in St Paul's Road West, Dorking, have had sheds broken into and items stolen, including gardening tools and petrol.

Anti-social behaviour has also been an issue, with youths hanging around the allotments during weekends.

Posters warning they risk prosecution have been put up at the site.

'Time and effort'

Surrey Police said where appropriate officers would also issue football-style yellow card warnings, telling offenders they face potential summons or arrest if their behaviour continues.

The card warnings are part of the Surrey Street Standards campaign and have previously been used to help curb disorder in town centres.

Pc Lisa Wells said anyone found at the allotment without a legitimate reason would have their details taken.

"Local residents have invested a lot of time and effort into these allotments," she added.
