Vomiting bug shuts hospital wards
Royal Sussex County Hospital
The ward closures are at Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital
Four wards at a hospital in Brighton have been closed to new admissions after 20 patients and two staff fell ill with the Norovirus bug.

The cases of vomiting and diarrhoea were reported at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

A spokesperson for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust said the ward closures were standard procedure to prevent the bug spreading further.

It is hoped two of the wards could be reopened over the weekend.

"The situation is being reviewed on a daily basis," the spokesperson said.

An extra short-stay medical ward has been temporarily set up to relieve pressure on the rest of the hospital.

Relatives and friends of patients who have experienced diarrhoea, vomiting or similar symptoms are asked not to visit the hospital until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.
