A car that plunged 400ft down cliffs at Beachy Head has been recovered from the shoreline, and a body retrieved from further up the cliff-face.
Coastguards began a rescue operation early on Sunday after a member of the public saw the car driven off cliffs at the notorious suicide spot.
The incident is being investigated but initial inquiries suggest the death is not suspicious, a spokesman said.
Coastguards, lifeboat crews and police dealt with the incident in Sussex.
The coastguard spokesman said: "We don't think it is suspicious.
"The body is being recovered and then it will be up to the coroner to hold an inquest to find out the circumstances."
And a spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed officers were assisting with the incident, which was under investigation.
The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team, which patrols the area near Eastbourne to help anyone they think might be depressed or suicidal, is also at the incident.
