A city academy which recently failed an Ofsted report has appointed a new director of education.
The Unity City Academy in Middlesbrough was placed in special measures last year for failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education.
It was ordered to improve, but in March was condemned by Ofsted inspectors for making inadequate progress.
The new director of education, David Fuller, said he was confident success could be achieved.
With 30 years' teaching experience, he had previously been in a similar role at West London Academy.
He has also worked with the Department for Education and Skills as a school improvement advisor.
Mr Fuller said: "The new role is a challenging one but I am confident that we can achieve great success by concentrating on developing systems which build capacity and support staff to raise the standards of teaching and learning which in turn help our students achieve greater success."
