Motorists are putting the lives of road workers on Tyneside at risk by flouting speed restrictions.
High profile CCTV cameras are to be used in an effort to trap those speeding through road works on sections of the A69 near Gateshead.
The Highways Agency said there was "no excuse" for motorists deliberately putting the lives of road workers at risk by breaking imposed 40mph limits.
Between 2002 and 2004, eight men died carrying out road works in England.
A Highways Agency spokesman said: "From 12 June mobile cameras will enforce speed limits in order to protect the road workers making improvements along the A69.
"Drivers frequently disregard reduced speed limits at road works sites, leaving workers vulnerable to vehicles travelling at dangerous speeds.
