Architect linked to bridge plan
Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao
Frank Gehry designed Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum
Developers have confirmed they have approached world-famous architect Frank Gehry over plans for a new bridge over the River Wear.

Regeneration company Sunderland Arc has been looking at proposals for a new road bridge in the city.

It has now confirmed it has been in discussions with Mr Gehry, who designed the Guggenheim Museum, in Bilbao.

The company said it expected to announce details of the project in the next two to three weeks.

A Sunderland Arc spokeswoman said there were no further details about where the bridge could be built.

She said Mr Gehry visited Sunderland in November 2002 to look at the area.
