Detectives are hunting a gang of thieves who set up a bogus company to swindle a food supplier out of �50,000 worth of nuts.
The conmen convinced a London firm to deliver 24 pallets of Californian almonds to a warehouse in Birmingham.
The gang of four men then spent four days moving the 20-tonne haul into the back of two vans, one of which is described as a Post Office-style vehicle with roller-shutters.
The nuts were supplied by Putney-based Bond Commodities Limited two months ago, who delivered the goods to a warehouse in Electric Avenue, Witton, after an
order from a firm calling itself Kel and Co.
Fake references
The bogus company claimed to be operating from premises in Kenyon Street, Birmingham.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Initial police inquiries appear to indicate that the company does not operate from the address given and the references provided are incorrect.
"Police are seeking information in relation to the company known as Kel and Co, and those who run it, and Bond Commodities Limited are offering a �5,000 reward
for the return of their property."
