Khyra Ishaq died in May 2008

A paramedic has told a court the mother of a seven-year-old girl who died after allegedly being starved to death showed "little emotion". Steve Hadlington was one of three paramedics called to Khyra Ishaq's home in Handsworth, Birmingham, in May 2008. He said he found Khyra upstairs, dressed in pyjamas and a nappy. Her mother, Angela Gordon, 35, and her partner Junaid Abuhamza, 31, deny murder. Ms Gordon denies five further counts of charge cruelty. Mr Abuhamza admits five charges of child cruelty. Mr Hadlington told the jury that Ms Gordon, formely of Leyton Road, showed very little emotion as he and his colleagues tried to save Khyra. Khyra died in hospital of an infection which the prosecution claims was the result of her being deliberately starved. The trial has been adjourned until Friday.
