Practice to close over contract row
Dr Barney Williams
Dr Williams wants a 'sensible outcome'
A GP's surgery in Wiltshire that deals with more than 3,500 patients has been told it must close by the end of January.

A closure notice on the Marshfield Road Surgery in Chippenham was issued last March after the doctor in charge refused to provide an out-of-hours service.

Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Healthcare Trust (PCT) says this was a breach of Dr Barney Williams' terms of employment, although it is still considering his application for a new contract.

He will not work out of hours, he says, as it is too much for him.

Dr Williams told the BBC: "I am not in the blame culture. I would like to struggle to ensure a sensible outcome is achieved."

The PCT previously said that patients will get alternative care if the practice closes.
