Ten snakes, including an eight-foot python, have been found drowned in a lagoon in Swindon.
They were discovered in water near to the town's Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, and would have been worth thousands of pounds.
The snakes included a cobra, corn snakes, pythons and boa constrictors, three of which were pregnant.
The reptiles were placed in bags which were weighed down with stones. Police have launched an investigation.
John Warwick from the Swindon Animal Haven said: "It is an awful, horrible way to kill a snake.
"When we took them out of the bag five of them had their teeth biting the edge of the bag trying to escape."
