About 220 soldiers from the King's Royal Hussars (KRH) regiment have returned home after a five-month tour of Iraq.
The men were greeted by friends and family at Aliwal Barracks, their base in Tidworth, Wiltshire, on Monday.
Members of the KRH were posted in the desert in Maysaan Province, north of Basra, targeting smugglers on the Iran/Iraq border.
No KRH fatalities were reported during the tour.
Major Tom Holloway, speaking about the border operation, said: "We really did [annoy] the smugglers because they started firing at us, so we must have been doing a good job."
Other members of the KRH were based at Basra Airport, detaining criminals and escorting coalition convoys.
The men were flown in to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire before travelling by bus to Tidworth.
