Volunteers are being sought by the National Trust to act as tour guides and to dress up in period costume.
The trust already has 6,500 volunteers in Wessex - Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Dorset - who work more hours than any other region.
The greatest need is for people to act as garden and room stewards helping visitors enjoy properties such as Lacock Abbey and Avebury.
One of the more usual jobs is a walks designer at Stonehenge.
Matched opportunities
There is also an opportunity for costumed interpreters at Chedworth Roman Villa in Gloucestershire and a plant record keeper at Barrington Court in Somerset.
"Without our army of volunteers to help us in so many ways, we just couldn't do it all," said Richard Watson of the trust.
"A large part of the nation's natural and built heritage would be lost, and the closed signs would go up."
Volunteers are matched to opportunities, reflecting their skills and interests, availability and location.
