Plans to build a new skate park at a youth centre in Wiltshire will be submitted by the county council if they can prove it would not be too noisy.

The planning application must include proof that the park in Malmesbury would not cause any noise pollution to nearby properties.

A temporary skate park has been brought in to assess the potential noise and the levels will be tested next month.

A skate park has been the top request by youngsters in the town for 10 years.

'Number-one priority'

The noise assessment will be carried out by an independent company and action has been taken by the council to ensure that the equipment is tested accurately and fairly.

David Whewell, of Wiltshire County Council, said: "At every meeting that I've attended with young people this project has been their number-one priority and I will do my utmost to ensure it is delivered.

"I feel strongly that we must base any planning application on fact, rather than perceptions. Young people are a part of this community and deserve our support."

If the results prove that the noise levels are within acceptable limits then a planning application will be submitted to build a skate park at the new youth centre at Cotswold House in the town.
