Two people from County Louth have been arrested in Lithuania on suspicion of trying to buy weapons.
Michael Campbell and his partner Fiona Duffy, both from Dundalk, were allegedly trying to buy arms and explosives for the Real IRA.
The arrests follow an operation involving the Garda, international agencies and Lithuanian police.
The Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office said the aim was to prevent the purchase of illegal arms.
On Wednesday, a court in Vilnius ordered Mr Campbell to be
detained for three months, and Ms Duffy for two weeks.
A spokeswoman said neither Ireland nor Britain has indicated they want to extradite the two suspects.
The operation was carried out by officers of the state security department and the Defence Ministry's special unit.
