A long-awaited report by the House of Lords into the Mull of Kintyre helicopter crash, in which 29 people died, will be published early next month.

The crash in June 1994 was the worst peacetime accident to befall the RAF.

A military board of inquiry found the two pilots, Flight Lieutenants Richard Cook and Jonathan Tapper, guilty of "gross negligence".

The verdict has always been disputed by the men's families and supporters.

A House of Lords select committee has been investigating whether the RAF was right to blame the crash of Chinook flight ZD 576 on the pilots' alleged negligence.

The report by the five-man committee, chaired by former Scottish appeal court judge, Lord Jauncey of Tullichettle, will be published on 5 February.

Among the 29 people who died were 25 senior anti-terrorism officers travelling to Scotland from Northern Ireland.
