Detectives do not believe McCormick has gone far

Strathclyde Police have appealed to James McCormick to give himself up after almost a week on the run.
The convicted killer was released from Hamilton Sheriff Court by mistake last Thursday by a private security company in charge of escorting prisoners, prompting a fierce political row.
Possible sightings of McCormick have been received from all over Scotland.
But detectives believe that someone is giving refuge to the 17-year-old and have made a personal appeal for him to come forward.
McCormick is believed to have swapped bail papers with another prisoner to confuse guards before walking free.

He may have changed his appearance and we now believe that he may have shaved his head

He stabbed 17-year-old Thomas Loughrey in the Pollokshaws area of
Glasgow last July.
Described as an "animal" by a judge, police have warned the public not to
approach him.
Detective Inspector John Rodgers, the officer in charge of searching for the
escaped prisoner, said: "I appeal to James McCormick to hand himself in
immediately."
The officer said there had been "numerous" reported sightings.
"From information to hand I believe he is still within the Strathclyde area," he said.
"I would ask that the public bear in mind that he may have changed his appearance and we now believe that he may have shaved his head."
The officer appealed for anyone with information not to approach McCormick but
to contact Hamilton CID on 01698 483318 or their nearest police office, or the Crimestoppers line at 0800 555 111.
"All information will be treated in confidence," Det Insp Rodgers said.
