The Western Isles' health board has accused two of its most prominent critics of "scaremongering" over claims of cuts in services.
Councillors Angus Graham and Angus MacCormack have been accused of "a series of rumours and half-truths" after they organised a public meeting.
One board member - herself a former councillor - branded the councillors' claims as "wicked".
But Mr Graham accused the board of resorting to "intimidation".
The two councillors set up the Stop The Cuts meeting on Monday.
The board's chairman David Currie has accused them of being personally responsible for scaremongering over patient services and challenged them to name the cuts that have taken place.
Public concerns
Former councillor Mairi Bremner, who chairs the board's finance committee, claims they have not made any cuts - but have simply redistributed vacant beds in Western Isles Hospital.
She has called on the councillors to stop their campaign, claiming it is "wicked" to tell half-truths.
Mr Graham said it was sad to see the board using intimidation on Western Isles councillors trying to articulate public concerns.
