Jobs return for call centre firm

The new deal will see the company hire an additional 370 employees

A call centre firm that was forced to shed 200 Scottish staff earlier this year hopes to be able to re-employ many of them.

TSC, now rebranded as HEROtsc, shut its Greenock premises in the summer after contractor T-Mobile took work oversees.

However, a deal to provide support to broadcaster Sky means the firm is now looking to re-establish the site and hire 200 staff.

The company is also looking to boost staff numbers in Falkirk by 170.

HEROtsc, which operates seven sites in Scotland and one at Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire, provides contact centre staff across the business sector.

The company said it was in the process of contacting former employees in Greenock to ensure the site was operational again as soon as possible.

'Devastating news'

Chief executive David Turner said he was delighted to be able to increase staff numbers again.

He added: "It was a very sad day when we had to tell our staff there was no work for them.

"We had a strong and loyal workforce in Greenock and I knew how devastating the news must have been.

"Now our next task is to get the centre back up and running as quickly as possible and our staff starting the training programme to learn the skills and knowledge that they will need to perform their usual HEROtsc top quality, professional role for our new clients."

The loss of the T-Mobile contract had threatened the jobs of about 500 Scottish workers, including the 200 who were eventually made unemployed in Greenock.

However, an agreement with Sky in June saved 300 jobs at the HEROtsc offices in Larbert, near Falkirk. An extension of that contract has also allowed the firm to boost its employee numbers there by 170.

Mr Turner added: "Increasing our Falkirk operation for Sky so quickly underlines what a good effort has been made with a new client in a relatively short time frame and I look forward to building on that great start."
