Talks on proposal to upgrade A96
Nairn
Several developments are proposed for around Nairn
A public meeting is to be held in Nairn about a proposal to dual the A96 between the town and Inverness.

The plan includes a bypass for Nairn and identifies areas of land for new developments, such as housing, at east Inverness and south Nairn.

The meeting will be held on 14 September.

Sandy Park, chairman of Highland Council's planning, development, Europe and tourism committee, said Nairn had been calling for a bypass for 30 years.

Badger tunnel

He said the consultation period was also an "opportune time" to discuss a number of proposals for new homes, a business park and golf courses.

Cawdor Maintenance Trust and Cawdor Estates announced proposals last month to expand Nairn.

Meanwhile, charity Scottish Badgers have suggested putting a tunnel under a roundabout near Inverness Airport to help reduce the number of badgers killed on that stretch of the A96.

The entire length of road from Inverness to Aberdeen was voted the most unpopular in a Rural Community Gateway internet survey of motorists.
