A new �750,000 water treatment works in the Highlands which was delayed during its planning phase by rare red squirrels has been switched on.
The plant in Glen Affric serves the villages of Cannich and Tomich.
Scottish Water had to amend its proposals for the works to avoid a squirrel habitat.
The Highlands is regarded as a stronghold for reds because it is free of grey squirrels, which compete with the other species for food.
Previously Scottish Water have programmed works on the water supply on Eriskay to avoid the corncrake breeding season.
