Airport firefighter strike threat

Firefighters employed by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) have threatened to stage a series of 24-hour strikes over pay.

The trades union, Unite, said members rejected a 2% pay rise and plan to stage walkouts on 9 June and 4 July.

HIAL operates 10 airports in the north and west and also Dundee Airport.

It said services at Dundee would not be disrupted. A HIAL spokesman said bosses had offered the union further talks and it was hoped a strike could be avoided.
