A formal planning application for an academic campus on the east side of Inverness is to be submitted soon.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which is helping to lead the project, said the document would be ready within the next few weeks.
If approved, the campus will be a base for UHI, the prospective University of the Highlands and Islands.
A public exhibition on the plans will be held at Inshes Church on 11 and 12 March.
Meanwhile, campaign group Action for Planning Transparency (APT) has lodged an official objection to another development on the A96 Corridor between Inverness and Nairn.
Moray Estates proposes to build a new town at Tornagrain that would include five schools, about 5,000 homes and parkland.
APT has recorded 59 separate objections to the planning application. The group said the bid breached planning rules.
