127mph driver 'had child in car'

Grampian Police said the speeding was irresponsible and disappointing

A man was caught driving at 127mph in Aberdenshire with a child in the car, police have said.

The 47-year-old was clocked on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road near Blackdog on Sunday with a seven-year-old girl in the vehicle.

The stretch of road has a 70mph speed limit.

Elsewhere, two men aged 18 and 22 were charged with racing each other at more than twice the speed limit on Aberdeen's Beach Esplanade on Friday.

Grampian Police said the driving was irresponsible and disappointing.

Ch Insp Tom Forrester, head of roads policing, said six people had been killed on north east roads since December last year. Three of them were drivers or passengers aged under 25.

"Whilst not wishing to label all young drivers, it is apparent that many young people are still not listening to our advice and continue to drive in an irresponsible and dangerous manner," he said.

"To be reported for driving at twice the speed limit on any road is bad enough, but to commit the offence on the Beach Esplanade, which is a road that publicly receives a significant amount of police attention, is unbelievable."
