Fresh snows have shut some schools in Dumfries and Galloway

Schools in the south of Scotland have been closed again as snowfalls hit the region once more. Dumfries and Galloway Council reported Amisfield, Duncow, Dunscore, Kirkbean and New Abbey primaries had been shut as bad weather swept across the area. Scottish Borders Council has shut Ettrick and Yarrow primaries and said road conditions were "very difficult". The local authority took a delivery of salt earlier in the week in order to help keep its routes clear. The weather has played havoc with education across southern Scotland in the past two weeks. At its peak, nearly 200 schools were shut across Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders. The majority had returned by Monday but a number remained shut where heating and water problems persisted. Overnight snow on Wednesday has now prompted some sites to close their doors to pupils again.
