Drivers have been asked to check with Traffic Scotland for problems

Flood watches have been put in place in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders after heavy rains hit the area.

A Met Office warning of heavy downpours across the south west of Scotland passed at 1200 GMT.

A band of heavy and persistent rain has been moving north across the region but was forecast to fade during the day.

The public has been asked to check with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency for any flooding problems and Traffic Scotland for roads issues.

The Met Office has advised that heavy rains could return to southern Scotland next week.

There is a risk of up to 75mm (3in) of rainfall overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

The rain could turn to snow over higher ground.
