Mr Crawford wants the Boundary Commission to review the move

The SNP politician and minister for parliamentary business does not want Doune, Dunblane and Deanston moved.

Under new proposals the three areas would become part of a new Clackmannan and Dunblane seat at Holyrood.

Mr Crawford won the seat from Labour's Sylvia Jackson at May's election with a majority of 620 votes.

Population changes

Commenting on the proposed changes, Mr Crawford said: "I have been contacted by many of my current constituents in Dunblane, Doune and Deanston regarding the proposed boundary changes to the Stirling and Ochil parliamentary constituencies.

"I share their feelings that these areas have historic and community links with Stirling.

"Given that the Boundary Commission's own guidance calls for council wards not to be split, it does not appear consistent to remove Doune and Deanston from the Stirling constituency as this would split the Trossachs and Teith ward."

Mr Crawford said he had written to the commission asking for the plans to be reconsidered.

The Boundary Commission Scotland is working to change the boundaries of Holyrood's 73 constituency seats to take account of population changes since the 1990s.

Scotland's 59 Westminster seats are unaffected by the new proposals. A final report on the changes is expected by June 2010.
